The Meantime
A non-technical compass for working with the AI we actually have.
We are living in the strange middle: AI is already here, already useful, already unreliable, and already reshaping work — but most people are still being handed either hype, fear, or tools without context. The Meantime is a book for professionals who want to think clearly, work practically, and build better judgment in this new period.

Why this book exists
Most people are not trying to become AI experts.
They are trying to understand what this technology means for their work, their judgment, their tools, their teams, and their future.
They are trying to figure out:
- What AI is actually useful for
- Where it fails
- How to work with it without pretending it is magic
- How to keep human judgment in the loop
- How to build small, reliable systems instead of chasing every new tool
The Meantime is written for that person.
Who it is for
Professionals overwhelmed by AI noise
You know AI matters, but you do not want another shallow list of tools or trends.
Builders and operators
You care about workflows, systems, handoffs, documents, spreadsheets, decisions, and the daily reality of getting work done.
Non-technical thinkers
You may not write code, but you still need a clear way to understand what AI can and cannot do.
People working in the middle
You are not waiting for perfect AI. You are learning how to work with the imperfect tools already here.
What the book explores
Why AI feels different from older tools
Why language makes this technology uniquely disorienting
Why AI can be useful without being truly intelligent
Why workflows matter more than prompts alone
Why human judgment still has to structure the work
How to think about agents, automation, and AI-assisted building without falling for the hype
What it means to work in the meantime

About the author
Marta Wasko did not come into tech through the usual path.
She came through workflows, spreadsheets, documents, and the everyday challenge of making complicated work actually function.
After completing her Master's in Data Science, she began translating AI from something abstract into something practical: tools, workflows, templates, and systems that help real people improve real work.
Through Hitit.ai, Marta creates writing, tutorials, and hands-on projects about working with AI thoughtfully — without pretending it is magic.
Her upcoming book, The Meantime, grew out of that work. It is a non-technical compass for working with the AI we actually have: powerful, imperfect, useful, unpredictable, and already changing how knowledge work gets done.
Work with the AI we actually have.
